KnowledgeTree 3.0.0 Released
CAPE TOWN, March 2, 2006 – KnowledgeTree™, the world’s leading
commercial open source document management system, today announced the availability
of Version 3.0 of the popular software that adds powerful workflow features,
integration with a user’s desktop and Microsoft Office applications and new
features to help companies better meet compliance requirements.
KnowledgeTree is a powerful, free, open source and Web-based document
management system built on the popular open source LAMP (Apache/MySQL/PHP)
stack. It is the leading PHP-based commercial open source document management
software project, with more than 120,000 downloads to date. It is used by
Fortune 500 companies, community organizations, local and state governments and
educational and scientific institutions around the world.
“KnowledgeTree is an incredibly stable, feature-rich document management
system that offers enterprise-grade functionality with exceptional ease of
use,” said Daniel Chalef, director of KnowledgeTree developers Jam Warehouse.
“It enables organizations to move away from uncontrolled and un-audited shared
network drives to an environment which encourages knowledge sharing and helps
ensure compliance with regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC Rule 17a-4 and
FDA 21CFR11.”
Version 3.0 of KnowledgeTree offers greater ease of use, upgraded
support for regulatory compliance requirements, advanced workflow features and
increased system scalability, performance and robustness. An entirely new user
interface and plug-in architecture allows the PHP development community to
easily customize the application’s appearance, internationalization and
functionality.
Customers can now also buy a commercially-supported version of
KnowledgeTree on an annual subscription basis that includes the Baobab
Integration Server and Baobab plug-ins for the Windows Desktop and Microsoft
Office applications. The core KnowledgeTree DMS application will remain free
for download and use under the open source GPL license.
Baobab Integration Server provides standards-based WebDAV integration to
the KnowledgeTree repository from the Microsoft Windows Explorer, Mac OS X
Finder and other WebDAV client applications. It also provides direct access to
KnowledgeTree documents from within Microsoft Office applications, allowing
users to browse and open documents and view metadata from within their most
commonly used applications.
The Baobab Integration Server is scheduled for beta release in March
2006.
