Projects

How we work

There is much more to our approach than simply getting the software development cycle right. Our projects begin with in-depth business analysis of clients' requirements and existing processes, followed by intelligent software development and efficiently planned implementation. After deployment, we follow up with documentation, support and training.

Our development methodologies include Agile, RUP and Domain Driven Design.

Our track record

Here are summaries of some of our major projects. You can also view a full listing of all our clients or read detailed case studies of selected projects.

Tesco, UK

Our BrandDirector™ product currently manages over two dozen concurrent innovation processes at Tesco, the fourth-largest grocery and general retail chain in the world. This entails managing over 4000 product ranges being developed in four different countries, with more than 5000 projects currently live on the system. Half a million digital assets are stored centrally and distributed securely to over 750 regular users.

Our success in delivering a system precisely tailored to Tesco's needs has streamlined their product innovation processes and significantly increased their return on investment (ROI). Read the case study for more details on the scale and success of this project.

Independent Newspapers, SA

Independent Newspapers have used our Virtual News Engine to publish their successful stable of newspapers online and maintain the largest news, classifieds and information site in South Africa.

This system manages the online publishing of 12 newspapers using a single delivery engine. It was developed in MySQL and PHP to integrate tightly with IOL's existing systems. Read the case study for details about how we did it.

Foschini, SA

Foschini Limited operate 13 retail companies and thousands of stores throughout South Africa. Their jewellery division owns three successful brands, which together dominate the South African retail jewellery market.

Jam Warehouse designed, built and implemented a custom buying management and planning system to handle the complex forecasting algorithms involved in Foschini's jewellery distribution. Subsequently we developed a similar application for their homeware division, @home. The systems are based on .NET and use a SQL Server back-end to integrate with Foschini's Oracle database systems. Read the case studies for more details on how we fulfilled Foschini's business needs.

Acceleration Media, SA

Acceleration Media, a leading online marketing company, required a document management system (DMS) that closely reflected their national and international operational structure and supported every aspect of their organisation from product delivery to human resources.

After extensive business consultation, we developed a custom Microsoft Office Sharepoint Services 2007 (MOSS2007) implementation that manages the full lifecycle of various categories of documents. This system supports access control, version management and full searchability. At the time of implementation, it managed 400 000 documents.

The DMS is integrated with their existing IT infrastructure and network security, and facilitates future integration with numerous other systems, including the company accounting system, the public website and the team management system.

MWEB Business, SA

Jam Warehouse built a customised DotNetNuke content management system (CMS) for MWEB Business, a large South African Internet service provider, and successfully deployed the product in a web farm environment.

The Jam Warehouse partnership with the advertising agency Ogilvy Interactive provided the technical expertise necessary to relaunch the upgraded MWEB Business websites successfully.

eThekwini Online

The eThekwini Council, a South African local government council, commissioned the development of the official public and internal portals for the City of Durban. The objective was to improve service delivery and grow small local business capacity while creating a solid technical platform for future growth.

The brief required us to use open source software and standards, so we developed the portals using Zope, Plone and Python. Their architecture allows the deployment hardware to be scaled up while maintaining system performance. We completed the project in partnership with Bytes Systems Integration and then gradually transferred our support and maintenance functions to AdaptIT, a Durban-based service provider.

Medical Research Council, SA

The South African Medical Research Council (MRC) is a science, engineering and technology institution encompassing 45 research units and groups nationwide. They required a custom document management system to secure, track and manage thousands of documents, including academic research papers, generated by these research units.

After a competitive tender process, they selected Jam Warehouse to design, develop and implement the solution. It was succellfully deployed and is still being used to manage hundreds of thousands of documents.

Jawitz Properties, SA

Jawitz Properties are one of South Africa's premier real estate agencies, having won the CNBC Television Association European and African Property Awards for Best Real Estate Agency and Best Property Marketing in 2008. Their core business systems were developed by Jam Warehouse.

We designed and still maintain the Jawitz website and their in-house management and administration system, which integrate directly with each it. We also integrated their system with PropertyGenie, the AfriGIS mapping service and automatic messaging services for branches and franchisees.
